Day 02: Lima - Cusco (3400 m - flight).
Transfer to hotel. Afternoon free.

Day 03: Cusco.
Free day for acclimatization. An optional sightseeing can be organised: Sacred Valley tour (Cusco, Pisaq, Ollantaytambo).

Day 04: Cusco - Mollepata - Challacancha (private vehicle) and trek to Salkantay Pampa (3700 m) in 3 h.
We leave Cusco in western direction and ascend to the village of Mollepata (2800 m), a subtropical village, overlooking a citrus growing area where flocks of parakeets screech overhead. We further drive northwards to Challacancha (3100 m). We climb up the long Humantay valley, enjoying beautiful vistas of Humantay (5917 m). Just before reaching Soray we get splendid views of the massive south face of Salkantay (6271 m). We continue our climb for one hour and reach Salkantay Pampa.

Day 05: Salkantay Pampa - Incachillasca Pass (4830 m) - Accobamba (3800 m) in 6 h.
After a beautiful climb we reach the pass, with spectacular close up views of the Salkantay snow - covered peak. We might catch sight of condors while we descend from the desolate screes.

Day 06: Accobamba - Huayllabamba (2950 m) in 5 h.
We follow a good path along the Pampacahuana river, down the narrow and steep valley to the Quesa river junction where we visit the impressive Inca fortress Paucarcancha. Along the Rio Cusichaca we pass remote farming settlements and stone corrals as we descend to join the famous Inca Trail at Huayllabamba.

Day 07: Huayllabamba - Warmiwanusca (4200 m) - Runcuracay (3800 m) in 6 h.
We start walking on the Inca Trail as we head northwest up the Llullucha valley. The path enters woods: first scrub, then a very beautiful cloudforest. Through meadows, we climb to the pass where we get fine views of Nevado Huaynay (5480 m). The descent to Rio Pacay Mayo (3600 m) is followed by a short climb to the Inca citadel of Runcuracay.

Day 08: Runcuracay - Abra de Runcuracay (4000 m) - Phuyupatamarca (3680 m) - Winay Wayna (2670 m) in 6 h.
Short climb to the first pass with stunning views of Saksarayok peak (5991 m) to the west and the Inca sacred peak Salkantay (6271 m) to the south. After a one hour descent we visit the impressive ruins of Sayacmarca. The access to the Inca ruins of Phuyupatamarca is down a steep flight of stairs. We continue through lushgreen forest to reach Winay Wayna ruins.

Day 09: Winay Wayna - Macchu Pichu (2430 m) - Huayna Picchu (2743 m) - Bus to Aguas Calientes and train to Cusco.
A 1 ½ hour walk through the cloud forest, full of begonias, bromeliads and tree ferns, brings us early in the morning to the main gate, Intipunku (The Gateway of the Sun), from where we have our first panoramic sight of famous and mysterious Machu Picchu. Starting at 5. 30 will allows us to get to Machu Picchu when the first rays of sun reach it. Unforgettable ! After visiting the ancient citadel, we follow Inca stairs up to Huayna Picchu and walk then down to Aguas Calientes where we take the train to Cusco.

Day 10: Cusco - Lima (Flight).
Transfer to hotel. Free day. A city tour can optionally be organised.

Day 11: Lima.
Transfer to the airport
